Ironical 2nd October, 2006

India is celebrating 'Gandhigiri'. Word coined from latest bollywood Lage Raho Munnabhai. All over the media, tv channels and even on everybody's tongue is the word gandhigiri.

Wishing Happy Gandhigiri on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
Mahatma Gandhi as all know was a peace and non-violence loving legend. He talked about using truth, non-violence as weapons to attain freedom, and to attain success.

On the other side, today is also the festival of Dussehra. The legend underlying the celebration, as also its mode of conduct, vary vastly by region; however, all festivities celebrate the victory of the forces of Good over Evil. It is also considered to be an auspicious day to begin new things in life.

Even in ancient times, as in Ramayana and Mahabharata, the ultimate win of good over evil was achieved by weapons. Weapons which were certainly not non-violence.

Isnt' it ironical that two extreme philosophies are celebrated today? What a coincidence!! This won't happen again in near future.

Maybe there is more philosophical context that God wants to send to us on this day.

That although we praise Gandhi for his non-violence movement. It should also be kept in mind that ultimate win of good over evil is achieved by force and weapons.

If Lord Rama and Lord Krishna weren't wise enough to use non-violence in those days. Certainly Bapu can't be wiser than them, and free India by using just non-violence.
We should give due to other freedom fighters also who have sacrificed their lives for freedom of India. No one celebrates and remember the b'day of Bhagat Singh, Bose and others. Why?? Why doesn't the govt. observes a single day devoted to these freedom fighters as national holiday. If govt. can't put national holidays for all these freedom fighters; atleast one day from history can be chosen for a national holiday dedicated to freedom fighters who used weapons and force to throw Brits out of the country. It can be anyday, day of jallianwalah bagh incident, day of first struggle of freedom fight and so on.

Gandhigiri is fine, but it shouldn't be over hyped. It has been already hyped so much by Congress party. Which used it to capture vote bank; and never truly understood the Gandhian concept.

Wishing you all a very Happy Dusshera (Happy Warriors Day); and Happy Gandhigiri.

Hope we are able to go into more deeper side of the irony of the day; and give due respect and regard for both gandhians and warriors.

Truly said.i do believe that the india didnt got freedom only because of gandhi and non- violence but freedom fighters do played a great role in it though its not ever recognised.
at this day when two philosophies are celebrated on same day for reason of things occured in diff centuries altoghter...its high time we should balance the two and give due credit to warriors n though we have not given credit to them but all have been using their principles only as man is animal by instinct and following gandhigiri is not always possible..
so its better we start using it just beside puting photo of gandhi in offices where corruption is spread like air..and celebrating it as dry day..its really dry ..
me in pune have not been able to take proper breakfast, lunch, n evening snacks as most of the shops around are closed today and even tiffin walas have taken a holiday today..

I'd second that, but thanks to Gandhi's non-violent moves we got our independence in 1947, else we'd have gotten it before, say in 1857 or so. He helped India to get her architecture from Brits in this slow independence process. Thanks to him, we have Howrah bridge, parliament house, Railway grid et al.

hmmm.. good thoughts by abhishek... maybe then slow independence allowed brits to steal away so much from india... india had its own architecture, which was ruined by brits..so they didn't gave actually anything, in compared to what they took away... the gems, gold, diamonds and so on... well what happened in history is over... in our future n present, we are still dying for Bapu. Or we had been made to die for Bapu, by the skewed text books on history, and school lessons... all again is due to Congress.... never allowed other freedom fighters to find a place in text book, so that they get recognition. what our mindset today is, its from the books we had read. we don't know much about Bhagat and Bose and those freedom fighters, is just because we weren't made to study those when we were young. Those weren't the part of school textbooks. Its high time really now, that we leave this jaundice eyed approach to other freedom fighters also. Else soon they will really become a forgotten history.

to put more strongly what i'm trying to say is this.. How many of us know that 2nd october is also b'day of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastriji. i didn't knew about that also myself, just read it now, when searching for 2nd october.

We don't know, because congress never allowed that to be recognised as on this date.. n shastriji was our PM after Nehru...
gave Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan: Hail the soldier, Hail the farmer (Hindi)

this also lead to a big movement...

there are many such instances of forgotten heros.

With due respect to Gandhi, i still believe that history text is skewed, and had been skewed by Congress party.

Good one Nikhil. But Gandhi's is documented history Rama and Krishna come from mythology. Events from their lives stories are mostly symbolic and shouldn't be taken literally. Violence in ancient India mythology made up for the lack of movies back then. But nonetheless a good blog.

now ankit, this is completely rubbishness and stupidity what you had wrote.

Since Ramayana and Mahabharata didn't got that much documented, it doesn't means that they are myths. maybe you are too young or unaware.

Nasa recently proved that setu dam build by vanar sena did existed around that time, during which ramayana is said to have had taken place.

Bhagwad gita is not a myth. its a written text. In those ancient times, hardly things got documented. So it doesn't means that those were mere myths.

there are many examples that can prove to you that ramayana and mahabharata are not just mere epics, but they did happened during those days.

Just take your time out and search on it.

And for your kind information, Gandhi alone wasn't capable enough to drive Brits out of India. There was quite major roled played by Bose's INA.

Don't go by the readings alone that you had read in school. That text is very much skewed by Congress.
